There are some issues, however, that prevent them from being our first option. For instance, the Q5's navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of an area.

It's still a good value particularly if your office or home has lots of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save money. It's also very quiet and works when you're at work or school. The only thing it doesn't have that you can't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you're required to, the mopping pad can be changed for a wet one in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into an elegant, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as quick navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has an impressive suction system and self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robotic hoovers hoover for carpets but it isn't as effective as some of its competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.

It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically fills up its base, and supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it vacuums. This is something we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant circular design that appears more like a normal Roomba rather than the boxy units, this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most attractive looking models in our tests. iRobot's latest flagship model also happens to be its smartest, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's also the only robot vacuum or mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it has an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has a simple mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's an eerily noisy device that could be an issue if you use it in the morning before work or in the evening as you attempt to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are similarly capable and better-looking. If you're willing to live with a little more noise and a little more cost it's a efficient two-in-one device that should satisfy most people.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot vacuum and mop. It comes with a variety of advanced features that help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner like Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum, refills the water tank, as well as washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and detect obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its premium competitors.
